Magnetic Locator Vs Metal Detector

While both Magnetic Locators and Metal Detectors are used to find metals, Metal Detectors are designed to find all types of metals while Magnetic Locators can only find ferrous metals. 

How Does A Magnetic Locator Work?

Unlike other types of locators, Magnetic Locators do not emit a signal. Instead, it detects and measures the magnetic field distortion surrounding a buried metal target and gives an audiovisual alert whenever a magnetic distortion is detected. For most units, the audio signal gets louder as it approaches the target. The depth and orientation of the target affect the signals of the locator, making it crucial to know the nuances of a specific model’s audio and visual alerts.
