Double Braid Ropes

Double braid ropes are flexible, easy-to-splice ropes with an inner hollow braid as the core and an outer 24-strand hollow braid as the cover. This “rope inside a rope” type of construction distributes (not necessarily evenly) the load between the core and the cover. Double braids are gaining popularity both as climbing and rigging ropes because of their ease of handling, high tensile strengths, and a wide variety of energy absorption capabilities to choose from.

The only downside to this rope is its tendency to “milk” where the outer rope slides over the inner rope, leaving the inner rope exposed. This usually happens when the rope is used with winches, cleats, pulleys, and other hardware. When a rope “milks,” you can just pull and stretch the milked outer cover and cut the excess inner rope.
