DOT-PLUMB LASER LEVELS & BUYER'S GUIDE

Dot / Plumb Laser Levels, also known as Point Laser Levels, are essential construction tools that make plumbing, aligning, leveling, and squaring tasks a lot easier. These lasers project points either vertically or horizontally with millimeter-level accuracy, making them an indispensable tool for electricians, masons, construction contractors, fencers, and carpenters for making sure that a wall or column is plumb and a wall-to-wall installation is level. Some Dot Laser Levels are made for basic use (DIY or home use) while some are for professional use like commercial construction projects. The right Dot-Plumb Laser for you depends on how you’re going to use it.

OUR BEST-SELLER

Our best-selling LaserLine Quad 1000 Precision Plumb Laser is a professional-grade self-leveling dot laser with 1,200 feet range, ideal for high-rise jobs such as towers, elevator shafts, and any job requiring zenith-vertical control. It can be mounted on a trivet or tripod or directly over the point when placed on deck. This dot laser is accurate to ±5 arc seconds (± 1/32 per 100ft). Using the LaserLine Quad 1000 is straightforward with its push-button control panel, large LCD screen, and a bullseye bubble for leveling. Made for tough jobs, this IP65-rated Plumb Laser is resistant to water jets and dust and can last for up to 140 hours of continuous use.

DOT PLUMB LASER LEVEL BUYER’S GUIDE

A Point / Dot Laser Level can be used for transferring points from wall to wall or floor to ceiling, installing windows, lighting, flooring, and more. Many of our Dot / Plumb Lasers can even be used together for 90-degree layouts. Choose from Dot Lasers with self-leveling options or manually adjust your laser level at any angle. Some Dot / Plumb Laser Levels even combine cross-beam laser lines and laser dots for a full-packaged leveling and plumbing laser. While all of our Dot and Plumb Laser Levels are great for indoor applications, some can also be used outdoors with a laser detector.

To help you choose the right Dot Plumb Laser Level, let’s look at 3 important factors to consider when deciding on a Dot Laser Level:

Number of Laser Points

Dot Plumb Lasers can emit one to five laser points. For transferring a point from floor to ceiling, one laser point is usually enough. For installing wall-to-wall furniture, it's best to use a five-dot laser.

Visibility Range

A Dot Plumb Laser’s visibility range pertains to the distance a laser point can be seen by the naked eye. Usually, anything below 100 feet is considered short-range, 100-900ft is medium-range, and anything above 1000 feet is long-range. Whether you need a short-range, mid-range, or long-range Dot Plumb Laser depends on the job. The higher the range, the more expensive the instrument is.

Accuracy

When it comes to accuracy, a good rule of thumb is at least ±1/8 inch at 30 feet. More advanced models are accurate to ±1/8 inch at 50 feet and even ± 1/32 per 100ft. As with the visibility range, the higher the accuracy, the more expensive the instrument is. It’s best to determine the kind of job you’re going to use it for to avoid over or underspending. If it’s a minor home project, a Dot Plumb Laser with lower accuracy will do. For professional work like commercial construction projects, err on the safe side and go for the highest accuracy your budget allows.
